I love sharing great resources and I just happened across this simple site for teaching poetry. It's called
Poetry is Expressive and it really has some great understandings, essential questions, assessment and teaching ideas that will help you to plan your poetry unit, regardless of what grade you are teaching.
Love, love, love the power of poetry! Expression, soul food, protest!
ReplyDeleteStudents in my high school, however, are too easily turned off it as a way to express themselves because they think it is girly, or uncool or that they would have to share too much of themselves. This resource could definitely have a few hidden treasures to help pull some of my students poems out!
Thanks for sharing such a useful resource :)
I have registered 8 keen students to attend a poetry slam in our area next month. The reason I love slams is that they are interactive and give students a way to express their views on the world in a funky format... kind of like a rap battle! Perfect for my high school students!
